Green Housing in Allerød, Denmark

A very low construction cost, high energy efficiency and quality housing are the three main success parameters for this competition entry. This is achieved by clever repetition of a few pre-fab units. The two opposing sides of terraced houses create a distinctive space between them, which serves as a green common area and provides circulation area for the residents.

The scheme is a collaboration between Esbensen Engineering and CCO, with a focus on renewable sources of energy, natural ventilation and a very efficient building envelope. As a result the projected consumption of energy of the entire scheme is 40,0 kWh/m2/year which means that each housing unit would have an annual heating bill of 135 Euros / 181 US dollars.
