Slagelse Sports Centre
Reshaping sports spaces
Slagelse Sports Centre, in western Zealand, is nestled in between a nature path, an educational area, a new campus, the railway station and the city centre. Designed as a number of spaces for activities such as yoga, tai chi, fencing, crossfit and parkour, the hall challenges the traditional idea that a sports hall is a single space dimensioned for various pitch-based activities. The design is based on six basic elements: The Hall, the Box, the Tower, the Tumble room, the Mirror room and Zen. Users can head straight for their particular activity, or they can wander along the halls exploring which other activities are taking place. From east to west, the spaces are placed side by side, opening up towards the south. Here, the outdoor activity zones – the Carpet, the Floor, the Terrace, the Break area and the Fitness pitch – contribute to the life of the city.
